BETHUNE-COOKMAN
COLLEGE REGISTERS STRONG TURN OUT IN NOVEMBER ELECTIONS
DAYTONA
BEACH, FLA. – Bethune-Cookman College students turned out in
significant numbers for the recent Daytona Beach city elections,
according the College’s Political Action Task Force (PATF).
Seventy-seven
percent of the registered students of B-CC who live on campus voted
in the November 3 balloting in figures released by Weldon Blake,
chairman of the PATF and Business instructor at B-CC.
“We
are proud of the high turnout,’’ Blake said. “It is good to
see the students get involved in their community."
Interest
in the election was high in part to B-CC alumnae Yvonne
Scarlett-Golden’s active campaigning on the campus in her
successful effort to become the city's first African-American mayor
in addition to two
closely-fought city commission races involving the campus’ two
precincts.
Community
involvement has been a top priority for B-CC, one of ten charter
institutions of Project Pericles, a program to create civic
leadership and involvement on its member campuses
