B-CC STUDENTS TAKE FIRST PLACE IN “SOUPER BOWL”

DAYTONA BEACH, FL – Matched against their professional counterparts, students from Bethune-Cookman College’s Hospitality Management department brought home first place honors at third annual “Souper Bowl” hosted by the Pilot Club of the Halifax Area, Incorporated on Saturday, January 24 at Daytona Beach Community College.

B-CC Senior Jonathan Bernard, Hospitality Management Program Head Earnest P. Boger, junior Paul Dudley, and Food and Beverage Instructor Chef Vivian Ray display their first place award from the "Souper Bowl" where they claimed first place in the Ethnic Soups and Stews category.

Senior Jonathan Bernard, junior Paul Dudley and Food and Beverage Instructor Chef Vivian Ray’s presentation of Louisiana Gumbo captured first place in the Ethnic Soups and Stews category. The trio’s entry bested a competitive field of 30 that included professional chefs and food service providers.

“It was a great experience for our students to be able to participate with professionals in the area,” said Ray. “We’re very proud of the results.”

Ernest P. Boger, Department Head of the Hospitality Management Program echoed Ray’s enthusiasm.

“Winning this award is an example of the high quality of leadership and creativity that our program has produced,” Boger said. “This is just a little taste – pun intended -- of what we expect of this department as our program grows.”
