STUDENTS TAKE FIRST PLACE IN “SOUPER BOWL”
DAYTONA BEACH, FL – Matched against
their professional counterparts, students from Bethune-Cookman
College’s Hospitality Management department brought home first
place honors at third annual “Souper Bowl” hosted by the Pilot
Club of the Halifax Area, Incorporated on Saturday, January 24 at
Daytona Beach Community College.

Senior Jonathan Bernard, junior Paul Dudley and
Food and Beverage Instructor Chef Vivian Ray’s presentation of
Louisiana Gumbo captured first place in the Ethnic Soups and Stews
category. The trio’s entry bested a competitive field of 30 that
included professional chefs and food service providers.
“It was a great experience for our students
to be able to participate with professionals in the area,” said
Ray. “We’re very proud of the results.”
Ernest P. Boger, Department Head of the
Hospitality Management Program echoed Ray’s enthusiasm.
“Winning this award is an example of the high quality
of leadership and creativity that our program has produced,” Boger
said. “This is just a little taste – pun intended -- of what we
expect of this department as our program grows.”

Bethune-Cookman
