B-CC ASSOCIATE TRUSTEES FINISHING OUT FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN

DAYTONA BEACH,  Fla. –  The Bethune-Cookman College Associate Trustees hope to strongly close out an ambitious endowed scholarship campaign honoring the memory of Dr.  Richard V. Moore, who served as College president from 1947 to 1975.

Dr. Richard V. Moore's Gravesite on the Bethune-Cookman College campus

As Bethune-Cookman College’s third president, Dr. Moore led the College to full academic accreditation while increasing full-time enrollment to over 1,400 students and the endowment from $135,000 in 1947 to over $1 million. Dr. Moore’s tenure also saw over $8 million worth of growth to the College’s physical plant.  He was also active in the Daytona Beach area community, serving on numerous civic, religious and national organizations.

“Dr. Moore made a significant contribution to our beloved institution, the city of Daytona Beach and the students whose life he touched,’’ said Dr. James E. Huger, campaign chairman. “We feel that this scholarship campaign is a fitting tribute to his life of service. He was a bridge builder between black and whites in the Daytona Beach area and a devoted family man. He will forever remember as a man for all seasons.”

In October 2000, the group presented a $104,000 check to the College – just over half of the $200,000 goal.

A granite marker bearing the names of all those who contribute to the campaign will be placed at the gravesite of Dr. Moore on the west side of the Bethune-Cookman College campus on Saturday, April, 2004. In order to complete the engraving in time, the cutoff date for receiving contributions is Wednesday, March 17, 2004.

Tax deductible contributions to the Dr. Richard V. Moore, Sr. Endowed Scholarship Fund can be made at one of the following levels:

·                    Diamond-- $5,000 and up
·                    Major -- $2,500 and up

·                    Gold -- $500 and up
·                    Silver -- $250 and up
·                    Bronze -- $100 and up
