JARED YANCEY ELECTED B-CC SGA PRESIDENT

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The Bethune-Cookman College student body has elected Jared Yancey as the 2004-05 Student Government Association (SGA) President.

JARED YANCEY

Yancey, 20, is an International Studies major from Portsmouth, Virginia. He is also involved in other organizations that have served as a springboard for the start of his political career, including the Model United Nations, Religious Life Fellowship, General Education Council, and the Political Action Task Force.

As SGA president-elect, Yancey says that he is excited to incorporate more student involvement and participation in activities that the SGA plan. His slogan for students who ask him what he plans to do as the newest SGA president is ``What do you want me to Do?’’ He wants students to put their requests on paper to show how serious they are about having a successful school year.

Yancey recently received an appointment to serve at the United States Embassy in Kigali, Rwanda as part of a summer internship sponsored by the U.S. State Department.  He will spend two months in the African nation’s capital in an administrative capacity at the embassy.

Yancey is honored to be the first male SGA president since Christie Knowles served  during the 2000-2001 school year.

“I think it’s important to be a role model for other young males who come into this prestigious institution,” Yancey said.

Despite his busy schedule, the twin brother enjoys bowling, movies, and spending time with friends.
