BALTIMORE
MINISTER TO SPEAK AT B-CC BACCALAUREATE.
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.- Dr. Walter S. Thomas, Sr., pastor of New
Psalmist Baptist Church in Baltimore, Md., will speak at this
year’s Baccalaureate Convocation for Bethune-Cookman College. The
service will take place on Sunday May 2, at 3:00 PM in the Mary
McLeod Bethune Performing Arts Center.

Dr.
Thomas has served as pastor of New Psalmist since 1975. Under his
leadership, the church body has grown flourished from 200 to more
than 7,000 members. He
has developed evangelism, mission, and education programs that
include discipleship training and Bible study.
The church operates a fully accredited Christian school and
broadcasts Empowering Disciples, a nationally televised
program that airs on WJZ-TV in Baltimore.
In
addition to his stewardship at New Psalmist Baptist Church, Dr.
Thomas has served as the president of the Hampton University
Minister’s Conference, the largest assembly of African American
clergy in the
nation, from 1999-2002, He is the author of the books Spiritual
Navigation for the 21st Century and Good Meat Makes its Own
Gravy and is also the editor of Outstanding Black Sermons
Volume 4.
Dr.
Thomas received his Bachelor of Science degree from University of
Maryland in Economics and earned his Master of Divinity degree from
the Howard University School of Religion. He earned a Doctor of
Ministry degree from Saint Mary’s Seminary and University in
Baltimore, Maryland. In
addition to his
earned degrees,
Dr. Thomas has been honored with a Doctor of Divinity degree from
Virginia Seminary.
Dr.
Thomas has three children with Patricia, his committed partner in
ministry.

Bethune-Cookman
