B-CC SGA TO HOLD COMMUNITY FESTIVAL

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Bethune-Cookman College Student Government Association will hold its inaugural “Umoja” community festival on Saturday, April 3 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“Umoja” is one of the seven principles of Kwanza meaning unity- to strive for and maintain unity in the family, community, nation and race. Organizers hope that the event creates a sense of unity with the community surrounding the College.

“With the College approaching its 100th year, we believe that this is a great time to establish a new precedence and embark upon a new century with a solid relationship with our surrounding community,’’ said SGA president Rachel White. “We’re looking forward to a day full of fun activities that provides the opportunity for everyone to bond and work together.”

Local businesses have been invited to bring samples of their food and merchandise. In addition, there will be numerous children’s activities for children at this event, including face paintings, book giveaways, arts and crafts, and much more.

For more information, contact Rachel White, Student Government Association President at (386) 481-2176 or Rasheen Tolliver at (386) 481-2175. Businesses need to reply by Monday, March 22, 2004.
