B-CC SIFE TEAM NAMED REGIONAL CHAMPION
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The
Bethune-Cookman College Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) Team won
the Regional League Championship title at the 2004 Southern Regional
SIFE Competition sponsored by Altria in Atlanta, Ga. held April 1.
By virtue of the regional championship, the
B-CC team advances to compete in the 2004 SIFE USA National
Exposition hosted by the Kansas City Business Community, May 23-25
in Missouri against 180 SIFE Teams from across the country.
Two teams will emerge as the Radio Shack SIFE USA National
Champion, and the winning team in the four-year college division
will move on to represent the United States at SIFE World Cup 2004
in Barcelona, Spain, competing against national champions from over
25 countries.
During the regional competition, the B-CC SIFE
Team presented over 20 projects they’ve developed and implemented
throughout the year. SIFE Team members developed
projects to meet the specific needs of the community by
teaching Market Economics, Ethics, Entrepreneurship, and Personal
Financial Success Skills. Some of those projects included the
inaugural “Z” Craft Fair, Community Cyber Centers in Haiti, Fair
Trade vs. Free Trade Debate, and Youth Entrepreneurship.
Each team was allotted 24 minutes for their
presentation and was judged by a panel of 20 corporate executives
from various corporations.
The B-CC SIFE team was also honored for its
efforts during Business Ethics month.
Mr. Calvin Fink serves as the new advisor for
the B-CC SIFE Team, replacing the late Dr. William Ziegler, and was
named its new Sam M.
Walton Free Enterprise Fellow.
