B-CC SCHOOL OF NURSING
HONORS MARGARET MCPHILLIPS
DAYTONA BEACH,
Fla. – On a day where the Bethune-Cookman College
School of Nursing named its Clinical Skills lab in her honor,
benefactor Margaret McPhillips became an honorary alumnae of the
Nursing Program at its Convocation service on Thursday, June 24,
2004 in Heyn Memorial Chapel.
“It is a fitting tribute to a woman who means
so much to the success and growth of nursing at Bethune-Cookman
College,’’ said Dean Dr. Alma Y. Dixon. “She will be always be
a part of this endeavor through the lives she’s touched and the
dreams she’s made possible through her generosity and
commitment.”
McPhillips received her nursing pin along with
five graduates for the summer class of 2004. In addition, the
ceremony honored 29 juniors who are about to embark on their senior
year, the most demanding year of the course of study.
Also honored Thursday was outgoing College
President Dr. Oswald P. Bronson, Sr., who is retiring after 29 of
years of service to his alma mater. Bronson was a chief advocate of
the nursing program’s rise to prominence.
The Bethune-Cookman College School of Nursing was
founded in 1978 and became the second basic collegiate program of
nursing in a predominantly minority institution in the state. The
program is approved by the Florida State Board of Nursing and
accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting
Commission.
