DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.
– Retiring Bethune-Cookman College Vice President of

Childs’ name, portrait and a football jersey
from his days with the NFL’s New York Giants will now be
prominently featured in the second floor room located in the Charles
Parlin Student Center. The room also includes a meeting table dating
back to the days of former B-CC president Dr. Richard V. Moore.
With his family and many of his former SGA
presidents in attendance from all over the country, Childs was
praised for his dedication to the students of B-CC.
“Clarence Childs is a good man, and he has
done good things,’’ said B-CC President Dr. Oswald P. Bronson,
Sr., who also is retiring. “Throughout his service, he has
remained consistent as well as a hard worker. This institution is
better because of him and I thank God for him.”
The celebration brought together B-CC with its
archrival, Florida A&M, where Childs was a member of the Rattler
baseball, track and football teams. Childs received honors from the
Polk County Chapter of the FAMU Alumni Association and retirement
gifts for his favorite hobby – fishing – from Rattler
well-wishers.
