Setting 70-acre urban Daytona Beach campus with easy access to Orlando. Independent United Methodist, 4-year co-education private College. Awards bachelor's degrees, Founded in 1904.

 

 
Enrollment 2,794 full-time students, 59% women, 41% men. Students come from 39 states and territories and 35 other countries. 65% percent are in-state students, 1% Hispanic, 88% African American, 7% international, 11% 25 or older, 57% live on campus. 3% transfer in.

 

 
Freshmen The freshman class in 2002 was 620. 2,523 applied. 72% were admitted. 25% enrolled. 68% of 2001 full-time freshmen returned

 

 
Academic Program 136 full-time faculty, 56 part-time. Core, liberal arts and science curriculum. 124 minimum credit hours are required for graduation: 6 credit hours each of math and science, 1 computer literacy course, 6 credit hours of modern foreign language, internship and senior project.

 

 
Calendar Semesters. 812 courses were offered in 2002-2003.

Special Opportunities Study Aboard in France, Germany, and Spain, Co-Op Programs and Internships. Extensive career development opportunities; 150 organizations recruit on campus. 70% of all graduates have job offers within 6 months, 26% go directly to graduate and professional schools.

 

 
Religious Studies The area of Religion and Philosophy offers degree programs leading go the Bachelor of Arts in Religion and Philosophy, designed for students who have chosen the ministry as a career and who plan to enter a Theological Seminary. Students must take Greek as their foreign language.

 

 
Student Life Extraordinary choral and instrumental music opportunities, including the Concert Chorale, Gospel Choir, Marching Band and Symphonic Band. Student Government Association, Student Newspaper and Radio Station. Major area clubs and honor societies, religious, service and social organizations; and Greek Letter organizations. 

 

 
Religious Life The Religious Life Fellowship is an organization charged with the creation and promotion of all religious activities on the campus and is drawn from both students and faculty/staff members who represent a cross-section of denominations and faiths. Others religious organizations include the Pre-Seminarian Club, the YMCA and the YWCA.

 

 
Religious Experience The Office of the College Chaplain serves as the center for religious activities as it coordinates and promotes programs of spiritual enrichment on the campus. Religious activities include Bible Study, Annual Spiritual Outreach Celebrations, Midweek Prayer Services, Outdoor Celebration Services and Spiritual Awareness Sessions in the dormitories. The college employs a full-time ordained Chaplain to administer these activities.

 

 
Computers/Technology 648 computers available for general students use. A computer is recommended for all students. Students can contact faculty members and/or advisors through e-mail. Computers for student use in the computer center, library, dorms, academic buildings provide access to the internet. Students have e-mail addresses.

 

 
Housing 1,772 on-campus housing spaces are available. On-campus housing is required for freshmen. Resident Assistants reside in in the residence halls.

 

 
Athletics Member of NCAA Division I (Division I-AA for football) and Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference for baseball, basketball (men's and women's), bowling, cross country (men's and women's), golf, softball, tennis, track and field and volleyball. Intramural sports: basketball, football, racquetball, soccer, table tennis and volleyball. 

 

 
Application Required: high school transcripts, minimum 2.25 high school GPA with four years of high school English, three years of high school math, three years of high school science and appropriate electives. Transfer students also provide all official college transcripts.

 

 
Costs Comprehensive Fee Average (including room and board is $14,770. Room and board rates vary according to board plan and housing facilities.

 

 
Financial Assistance 97% of all students receive some type of financial assistance. Average percent of documented need met - 79%. Average aid award in 2002 -- $13,500. Academic Scholarships, College grants, State and Federal Funds available to qualifying students.
